Luego de muchos años de trabajar con niños y jóvenes, Silvia investigó la manera de ponerlos a trabajar en técnicas textiles sin que ellos se den cuenta: o sea, sin que nadie los moleste.
After many years of working with children and youngsters, Silvia researched the way to make them work with textile techniques, without their knowing—that is, without being annoyed by anyone. 
Silvia inventó las “Membranas”. Se llaman así, pues son tapices en capas, los cuales parecen una piel extraña.
Silvia invented “Membranes,” which are named that way because they’re ply tapestries resembling weird skin.
A los jóvenes les encanta tanto el nombre, como la acción de membranear.
Youngsters love both the name, and the action of membraning.
A la fecha, hemos hecho, exhibido y vendido varias membranas, las cuales son verdaderas obras de arte. A los chicos y a sus madres les toma unas 200 horas de trabajo hacer cada membrana.
To date, we have made, exhibited, and sold several membranes, which are true works of art. On average, it takes youngsters and their moms about 200 hours of work to complete each membrane.
Para la exhibición Metamorfosis, un nuevo ciclo (a llevarse a cabo en julio del año próximo), Gabriela va a exhibir su membrana “Fantastika”, la cual vale la pena observar, pues es prácticamente reversible.
Gabriela espera poder vender esta obra algodón para poder financiar sus estudios superiores.
For the exhibit, “Metamorphosis, a new cycle” (to be held in July, 2010,) Gabriela is going to exhibit her membrane, “Fantastika”, which is worth observing since it’s practically reversible. She hopes to sell this work some day in order to help her pay for college.

This is the second panel for the platform of the National Museum exhibit. Today we learned to hand dye with inks over cotton. The panel measures 13 feet long X 12.5″ wide (it’s huge!).
Next week we’ll finish dyeing it, and then we’ll embroider it.
