Graffiti

Los calabozos del Museo están llenos de graffiti, el cual data de los tiempos aquellos en que nuestro [relativamente pequeño] Cuartel Bellavista tenía “prisioneros de guerra” (Costa Rica no ha tenido guerra desde 1948, año en que el “General” Pepe Figueres abolió su propio ejército). ¡Dicen los rumores que, seguramente, a don Pepe le habría encantado ver estas barracas convertidas en una fantasía textil!
El conjunto es de de 11 obras con todas sus tripas, además de una pancarta textil de gran formato en el torreón.

The cells at the Museum are full of graffiti dating from the time that our [relatively small] Cuartel Bellavista actually had “war prisoners” (Costa Rica hasn’t had a war since 1948, when “General” José “Pepe” Figueres-Freer abolished his own army). Rumors are that don Pepe would have loved to see these barracks turned into a textile fantasy!
Estas celdas son sumamente frías y duras, además de que, como patrimonio histórico que son, no se pueden intervenir de manera que pudieran ser dañadas. Por lo tanto, se me ocurrió intervenirlas con mi propio graffiti textil, el cual viaja desde ellas hacia los espacios anexos.
These cells are very cold and harsh and, since they’re part of the historic patrimony, they can’t be intervened in a way that could damage them. Therefore, I came up with the idea to intervene them with my own textile graffiti, which travels from them to next door spaces.
The group is 11 works with their guts, plus a huge textile poster at the tower.
